Koalas can live as long as 17 years, however males life expectancy is less than 10 years (due to injuries during fights, dogs and cats). Females generally live longer. Koalas living in an undisturbed habitat would have a greater life expectancy than those living in suburbia.

Koalas prefer to move around just after sunset spending daytimes asleep in the fork of a tree. Koala spends sleeping 75% of its time. Just after sunset koalas move around and can often be heard “barking” aggressively at other koalas.

Polar bears roam the Arctic ice sheets and swim in that region’s coastal waters. They are very strong swimmers, and their large front paws, which they use to paddle, are slightly webbed. Some polar bears have been seen swimming hundreds of miles from land, though they probably cover most of that distance by floating on sheets of ice.

Polar bears live in one of the planet’s coldest environments and depend on a thick coat of insulated fur, which covers a warming layer of fat. Fur even grows on the bottom of their paws, which protects against cold surfaces and provides a good grip on ice. The bear’s stark white coat provides camouflage in surrounding snow and ice. But under their fur, polar bears have black skin—the better to soak in the sun’s warming rays.

These powerful predators typically prey on seals. In search of this quarry they frequent areas of shifting, cracking ice where seals may surface to breathe air. They also stalk ice edges and breathing holes. If the opportunity presents itself, polar bears will also consume carcasses, such as those of dead whales. These Arctic giants are the masters of their environment and have no natural enemies.

Females den by digging into deep snow drifts, which provide protection and insulation from the Arctic elements. They give birth in winter, usually to twins. Young cubs live with their mothers for some 28 months to learn the survival skills of the far north. Females aggressively protect their young, but receive no help from their solitary male mates. In fact, male polar bears may even kill young of their species.

Polar bears are attractive and appealing, but they are powerful predators that do not typically fear humans, which can make them dangerous. Near human settlements, they often acquire a taste for garbage, bringing bears and humans into perilous proximity.

The leaves of Venus’ Flytrap open wide and on them are short, stiff hairs called trigger or sensitive hairs. When anything touches these hairs enough to bend them, the two lobes of the leaves snap shut trapping whatever is inside. The trap will shut in less than a second. The trap doesn’t close all of the way at first. It is thought that it stays open for a few seconds in order to allow very small insects to escape because they wouldn’t provide enough food. If the object isn’t food, like a stone, or a nut, the trap will reopen in about twelve hours and ‘spit’ it out.

When the trap closes over food, the cilia. finger-like projections, keep larger insects inside. In a few minutes the trap will shut tightly and form an air-tight seal in order to keep the digestive fluids inside and bacteria out.

The term Japanese maple  refers to a very large group of plants belonging mainly to Acer palmatum and Acer japonicum, although there  are other species with similar characteristics.  These have been bred and selected for  hundreds of years in Japan,  and selections from the USA  and Europe are also available. They tend to  easily mutate, and observant gardeners have been selecting and propagating  these new forms for centuries. Hundreds of named varieties are in existence,  though usually only a handful, at best, will be available through a local nursery  outlet.  However, there are specialty  mail order nurseries that carry an extensive inventory of the less common types  for the maple connoisseur and bonsai enthusiast.

There are two types of Labradors, the English Labrador and the American Labrador. The English bred lab comes from English bred stock. Their general appearance is different. The English bred labs are heavier, thicker and blockier. The American bred Lab comes from American bred stock and is tall and lanky. The double coat is smooth and does not have any waves. Coat colors come in solid black, yellow, or chocolate. There is also said to be a rare silver or gray color that is referred to by the AKC as a shade of chocolate. This color is controversial and some claim it is a Weimaraner cross, while others say it is a true mutation. The head of the labrador is broad with a moderate stop. The nose is thick, black on black and yellow dogs and brown on chocolate dogs. The nose color often fades and is not considered a fault in the show ring. The teeth should meet in a scissors or level bite. The muzzle is fairly wide. The neck is proportionately wide and powerful. The body is slightly longer than tall. The short, hard coat is easy to care for and water-resistant. The medium sized eyes are set well apart. Eye color should be brown in yellow and black dogs and hazel or brown in chocolate dogs. Some labs can also have green or greenish yellow eyes. In silver dogs the eye color is usually gray. The eye rims are black in yellow and black dogs and brown in chocolate dogs. The ears are medium in size, hanging down and pendant in shape. The otter tail is thick at the base, gradually tapering towards the tip. It is completely covered with short hair, with no feathering. The feet are strong and compact with webbed feet which aid the dog in swimming.

The genus theobroma originated in South America. It has been divided into 22 species, one in which is cacoa. This one is widely known for what you can make from it, chocolate. The first outside to drink chocolate was Christopher columbus. The natural habitat for the cocoa tree is in the lower storey of the evergreen rainforest. Climate factors, in particular temperatue and rainfall, are important in growth.

Humans play an important role in keeping the envirnment safe. Humans for instance have caused alot of pollution to go into the air that we breathe. This pollution can then in fact cause health problems for those around. Also the shortage on some animal species has a lot to do with people killing the endangered species, just for fun. This can all be stopped by taking day to day actions to try to keep the air clean and the species of animals alive.

The sunflower has a large flowering head. It is named after it’s huge blossoms, that look like the sun. The sunflower has many culinary uses. The many culinary uses mainly come from the seeds and the sunflower oils. Some of the products that are produced from the sunflower are sunflower butter, sunflower oil, latex, and bread. Sunflowers were also used in medical ointments, dyes, and body paints that the Indians used.

The alfalfa plant is found in US, Canada, Argentina, France, Australia, the Middle East, South Africa, and many other countries. It normally lives 4-8 years, but sometimes 20 years, depending on the climate. Alfalfa has been used for medical uses for more than 1,500 years. The early chinese used it to treat disorders related to the kidneys. Also, for treating poor digetsion. Which shows that we should use more of it for medical uses, before we do this we should also put this plant into trials and experiments.
